Overview
Welcome to IM:RP: a San Andreas Multiplayer roleplaying server where you create a character and live out their story in a persistent world. Everything you do should be through the lens of your character: their personality, motivations, and circumstances.
This guide covers the essentials for new players, from understanding roleplay basics to getting your first car and job.
What is Roleplaying?
Roleplaying means acting as a character in a fictional setting. When you join IM:RP, you should behave and make decisions as if you were your character in real life. Base your actions on your own experiences, adapted to fit your character's lifestyle. If your character is named John_Doe, act and respond as John_Doe would.
IC vs OOC
| Term | Meaning | How to Use | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| IC (In Character) | Actions and speech performed as your character | Default chat, /me, /do | "Excuse me, do you know where I can rent a car?" |
| OOC (Out of Character) | The real person behind the screen | /b, /ooc, /pm | Asking about server mechanics or technical issues |
First Steps
Getting a Driver License
Use /gps and select DMV (Driver License). Drive to the checkpoint and enter the building, then use /driverlic to start the driving test. You will receive an orange Stafford near the side of the building -- follow the checkpoints carefully and obey all instructions to pass.
Getting a Phone
You can purchase a phone at any 24/7 shop. Use /buy or /locate and select 24/7 to find a nearby store. Once inside, type /buy and select a phone from the item list.
A phone lets you call other players, post advertisements, and call services like taxis and mechanics.
Getting Your First Car
Enter /gps and choose Newbie Dealership. At the checkpoint, use /buy at the business icon to purchase a vehicle.
You can also buy from other players by posting an advertisement with /ad (e.g., "Buying a cheap car, budget is X USD") or watching for player ads. Making calls requires a cellphone from a 24/7 store.
Getting Your First Job
Legal jobs are available at City Hall. Use /gps and select City Hall to find it. There are also two illegal jobs -- Thief and Drug Runner -- which can be located through /gps as well.
Levels, Paytime & RPoints
RPoints (Respect Points) are the core progression system. You earn them every paytime, which occurs at the top of every full hour (e.g., 15:00, 16:00). Use /stats to check your current RPoints and how many you need to level up.
At each paytime you receive:
- 1 RPoint (or 2 during Happy Hour)
- Your basic payment plus any job earnings
- Interest on savings (minus tax deductions)
Level Milestones
| Level | Notable Unlock |
|---|---|
| 4 | Can be robbed by other players; can purchase a weapon license |
| 15 | Ability to hide your nametag with /name off |
| 40 hours playtime | Receive a free namechange credit |
Leveling Up Faster
The server progression is based on RPoints earned each paytime. Make sure you are online during the top of the hour to receive your paytime. During Happy Hour, you earn double RPoints -- keep an eye out for when it is active.
Happy Hour
Happy Hour provides double RPoints, double interest, and no taxes during paytime. It activates when:
- A Lead Administrator or higher enables it
- A premium member (Addict package) uses their
/happyhourcredit - The server has over 100 players online (automatically re-enables each paytime)
Administrators usually enable Happy Hour on weekends or during special events. There is no fixed duration -- it checks player count at every paytime to determine if it continues.
Changing Your Spawn
By default, you spawn at Unity Station. To change your spawn location, rent a room at a house using /rentroom. This command also shows available rentable houses.
When you log in or your character is killed, you will respawn at the rented house. Use /unrent to stop renting and return to the default spawn.
Useful Tips
Animations
Use/animlist to view all available animations. You can also enter /commands and select Animations from the menu.
Checkpoints
If you lose a checkpoint or red marker, type/mycp to see your active checkpoints. Select the one you need and click trace to restore it. Use /nomarker to stop tracing a checkpoint entirely.
Server Ping
You can improve your connection by using the Game Accelerator option in the Launcher Settings.Getting Help
