Overview

Vehicles are one of the most important assets in the game. You can own, drive, modify, sell, and manage vehicles. Each player has a limited number of vehicle slots depending on their account status.

DetailValue
Default vehicle slots10
Premium vehicle slots15
Premium 5+ vehicle slots20
Additional slotsPurchasable (added on top of base)
Default spawn slots2 (3 with premium 4+, plus any bonus slots)
You can increase your vehicle slots beyond the base amount through additional purchased car slots.

Ownership

Vehicles can be owned by players, factions, teams, or alliances. Player-owned vehicles are tied to your account and persist across sessions.

  • Player-owned -- full personal control, can sell, scrap, or transfer.
  • Faction-owned -- accessible by all faction members; managed by tier 0/1 leadership.
  • Team-owned -- accessible by all team members; managed by team leadership.
  • Alliance-owned -- shared across allied factions; managed by tier 0/1 leadership.

Buying from Dealerships

There are several dealerships around Los Santos for different vehicle types:

  • Budget Dealership (ID: 68)
  • General Dealership (ID: 88)
  • Luxury Dealership (ID: 58)
  • Bike Dealership (ID: 56)
  • Aircraft Dealership (ID: 69)
  • Heavy Dealership (ID: 89)
  • Exclusive Dealership (ID: 145)
  • Job Dealership (ID: 90)
  • Bicycle Dealership (ID: 347)
  • Boat Dealership (ID: 70)

Visit a dealership and browse the available vehicles. When you buy a vehicle, it counts toward your vehicle slot limit. After purchasing, you should immediately park it with /car park or you will need to tow it next time.

Buying from Other Players

Players can put vehicles up for sale at the car selling lot. Use /car buy while sitting in a for-sale vehicle to purchase it. There is a 1% sales tax on vehicles sold for $100,000 or more.

After buying a vehicle from another player, the plate is reset to "NOTREG". Register it at a car registration office right away.

Vehicle Claims

Vehicle claims are an OOC (out of character) item that lets you redeem a vehicle of your choice, priced at approximately $15,000,000. You can check if you have a vehicle claim via /stats or on your profile at sa-mp.im/profile. To redeem a claim, visit sa-mp.im/profile/premium_claim. Claims can be transferred to other players using /give and are also purchasable in trading channels.

Custom Plates

Custom license plates are a fortune spin item. By default, vehicles receive a plate in the format of the owner's name initials followed by the vehicle ID (e.g., "JD 1234"). To apply a custom plate, submit a support post with your desired plate text.

Registration

Vehicles must be registered at a car registration office before they can be repaired or inspected. An unregistered vehicle will display the plate "NOTREG".

  • /car register -- register a vehicle (generates a plate based on your name and vehicle ID).
  • /car unregister -- remove the registration from a vehicle.

Both require you to be at a car registration business and cost the business entry price.

You can find the car registration office with /tracebiz 161. For aircraft registration, use /tracebiz 358.

Fuel System

Every vehicle has a fuel tank with a capacity that depends on the vehicle model. Fuel is consumed while driving. When the tank runs empty, the engine stops.

Vehicle typeExample fuel capacity
Motorcycles15-30
Small cars65-80
Sedans / SUVs80-95
Trucks / heavy vehicles150-450
Helicopters160-500
Planes400-900
Bicycles / certain vehicles0 (no fuel needed)

The fuel capacity shown in /myvehicles is a percentage of the base capacity. Default is 100%, and you can upgrade up to 50% extra (for a total of 150%).

Upgrading Fuel

Use /car upgradefuel at a fuel upgrade business.

DetailValue
Max additional fuel50%

Example: 10% upgrade$5,000,000

Refueling

When your vehicle runs low on fuel, you have several options:

  • Gas station -- drive to a gas station and use /refuel to fill up.
  • Gas canister -- use a gas canister item to refuel anywhere.
  • Mechanic -- use /service mechanic to request a mechanic who can refuel your vehicle on the spot.

Mileage and Inspections

Vehicles track their mileage in kilometers. Regular inspections (servicing) are required to keep your vehicle running properly.

DetailValue
Inspection intervalEvery 7,500 km
Minimum mileage between inspections500 km
Base inspection cost$5,000 - $15,000 (random)
Luxury/sport vehicle surcharge$40,000 - $60,000 extra
Heavy vehicle surcharge$60,000 - $85,000 extra
Aircraft surcharge$110,000 - $180,000 extra
Boat surcharge$60,000 - $100,000 extra

Use /car service at a vehicle inspection business to get your vehicle inspected. You need a valid driver license and the vehicle must be registered.

If you skip inspections for too long, your engine may break down. Complete a service to fix it.

Lock and Alarm System

Locking

Use /car lock or /cl to toggle the lock on a nearby vehicle you own or have access to. Bikes and certain vehicles cannot be locked.

If a vehicle's lock has been broken into, it cannot be locked until repaired at a Pay N Spray (/car fix).

Alarm System

Vehicles can have an alarm installed and upgraded through /car alarm. There are 3 alarm levels.
