Overview
There are many ways to communicate in-game, each with different ranges and purposes. Chat types fall into three categories: in-character (IC) speech that nearby players can hear, actions that describe what your character does, and out-of-character (OOC) channels for player-to-player communication.
In-Character Speech
Regular Speech
Simply type in chat to speak. Nearby players will hear you based on distance.
| Distance | Visibility |
|---|---|
| 0-10 units | Full (white text) |
| 10-20 units | Faded (grey text) |
| 20-40 units | Distant (dark grey text) |
If you have an accent set, it is displayed alongside your message.
Low
Use /low <message> to speak quietly. The range is shorter than regular speech.
| Distance | Visibility |
|---|---|
| 0-10 units | Full |
| 10-20 units | Faded |
Shout
Use /shout <message> (or /s) to shout. This has a much longer range than regular speech.
| Distance | Visibility |
|---|---|
| 0-30 units | Full |
| 30-60 units | Faded |
Car Chat
Use /cc <message> to speak only to players inside the same vehicle.
Bypass Chat
Use /l <message> to bypass special chat contexts like phone calls, poker tables, or casino tables and speak normally in local chat.
Actions
| Command | Format | Description |
|---|---|---|
/me <action> | Name action | Describe an action your character performs (visible to nearby players within 35 units) |
/ame <action> | > Name action | Perform an action only visible to yourself (shown as a chat bubble to others) |
/action <text> or /do <text> | text ((Name)) | Describe a scene or environment detail with your name attached |
Whisper
Use /w <player> <message> to whisper to a nearby player. You must be within 6 units* of them. Nearby players will see that you whispered something, but not the content.
/wlock and unblock with /wunlock.Megaphone
Use /megaphone <message> (or /mp) to broadcast a message through a megaphone. This is restricted to law enforcement faction members.
| Situation | Range |
|---|---|
| Near a megaphone vehicle | 60 units |
| On foot | 40 units |
Out-of-Character Chat
Local OOC
Use /b <message> to send a local OOC message. This uses the same 40-unit range as regular speech and is displayed in parentheses.
Global OOC
Use /o <message> to send a message to the global OOC chat. This is visible to all players on the server.
Premium Chat
Use /p <message> to send a message in the premium chat. Only premium members and admins can see these messages.
